Breakfast for the brain

Its early morning and you start your day by cleaning your self, rushing towards feeding yourself....feeding food...but at the same time your brain is also hungry, what do we feed our brains?
Research says that early morning is the best time for a person grasp in information to remember and understand it, during the silent times of the night we do have our brains working, but in a very free manner. But as soon as we get up, our brains a kinds of open doors to things. Remember the exam times when our parents used to wake us up to revise things early in the morning.

But over time what has happened is that most of us feed our bodies with amazing breakfast with variety, most of us focussed towards healthy breakfast and healthy exercise....but what about the brain?

What do we feed our brains? Lets make a list, there is the morning news paper which has traditionally got into the cycle of morning brain feed, off late our social network updates and email checks are into the zone. If you compare this to our healthy breakfast, just imagine what we are doing to the impressive capacity that our brain has for the mornings!!.

Say for example you get up and with your "Healthy Breakfast" you read the days news paper. On the general knowledge side its pretty good to grasp in latest happenings of the world. But imagine what it is doing to your mind, the very trigger of emotion that you may have for the rest of the day is controlled by this activity. Its like the mind is the most receptive at that time, and you are feeding it explosive news. "The economy is going down!!!" , " 3 Murders in local area!!", " SRK earns 2 crores for new film", " Actor X divorced actor Y" etc etc....these are the emotional triggers you are allowing to affect your mind. Some skeptics would say, not everyone reads a newspaper, and then whats wrong in reading one?, Ok for the lucky ones who dont read news papers, how about our Online social activities.
First thing in the morning open up a facebook page, and the page starts speaking to you " Look X went to Europe tour", " Y has a new look", "Z got married", "A got a new car"....now whats happening in the back of our extreemely active mind is massive grasping of this information and hence permanent marks inside the brain. What this could end up leading to is the rest of the day with thoughts about these X,Y,Z and A, Maybe just like a heavy oily breakfast which stays with you till lunch.

The point I am trying to make here is breakfast for the brain is a critical aspect to our daily lives, instead of wasting our amazing capacity to grasp and understand in the morning, if we indulge in intellectual junk, it would end up wasting our minds capacity.

I dont mean to stay, go back to studying every morning, but some good meditation about our day or work life, can be effective in solving up the rest of the day and hence giving you time to eat this junk later. Perhaps if there is something new you want to learn, the mornings are the best time you can invest in it. Try it for some time, trust me it works :)
